UMUC Europe Payment Plan FAQ

Why change vendors?

OSA desired a vendor partner that could meet all student payment processing technology needs while also enabling UMUC to provide world-class customer service, maintain operational flexibility and manage payment plans in house. TouchNet was the best fit. In-house payment plans are live effective 8 February 2016. By May 2016, all payment processing functionality will be supported by TouchNet technology.

What are the benefits of managing payment plans in-house using TouchNet technology

  • Enhanced technology that provides real-time payment plan enrollment and payment posting and reduces opportunity for user error
  • No credit card convenience fees passed to the student
  • Faster turn-around time for refund processing
  • Increased customer convenience due to centralized view of all student account activity, including payment plan install payments and balance
  • Enhanced reporting flexibility and accuracy

How much does it cost to sign up?

There is a $35 non-refundable application fee charged at the time a student signs up. Students are responsible for the fee each term that they use a payment plan.

If a student signs up today for a payment plan, how much is required?

At the time of enrollment the non-refundable application fee of $35 is due as well as the first installment. The installment amount will vary based on the total number of months and the total amount of the plan.

How long is the payment plan term?

Payment plans open for each term on the first day of registration. The earlier a student enrolls, the longer he/she can stretch their payments. All payment plans must be paid in full by the end of the term: December for fall, May for spring, and July for summer.

Are payment plans credit based?

No, there is no credit check and no interest fees.

What is the interest rate for a payment plan?

UMUC’s monthly payment plans are interest free!

How long will it take for a payment plan to reflect on the student account in PeopleSoft?

The payment plan will reflect in PeopleSoft immediately after it has been created in TouchNet.

Can a student enroll into multiple payment plans at the same time?

Yes, since UMUC typically offers enrollment in two terms at any given time, a student will be allowed to sign-up for a plan to cover each term. However, please note that overlapping payment plans will require two separate payments each month. For example, a student enrolled in a fall plan that does not end until December, will need to make two payments if he or she signs up for a spring plan during September–December.

Why will a student receive notices about an outstanding balance when he/she signed up for a prior balance payment plan?

All payment plans are due on the 15th of the month. If a student becomes delinquent on his/her plan, UMUC will notify the student requesting payment. Ultimately, if payment is not received by the last business day of the month, OSA will cancel the plan; creating a balance on the account that could cause disenrollment or further collection outreach.

If the student submits a late payment to his/her payment plan, will fees be assessed?

No. There are no fees for late payments.

What, if any, consequences are there if a student misses their payment?

All payment plans are due on the 15th of the month. If a student becomes delinquent on his/her plan, UMUC will notify the student requesting payment. Ultimately, if payment is not received by the last business day of the month, OSA will cancel the plan; creating a balance on the account that could cause disenrollment or further collection outreach.

If a student adjusts enrollment (adds or drops class), will the plan automatically adjust the total?

Yes. The plan will adjust automatically whether there is an increase or decrease in the total due in a given term. However, if the student adds a class and the next installment is due within 14 days, the next installment amount will not be increased; rather the remaining installments will absorb the increase.

Can an authorized user make a payment on a student’s payment plan?

Yes. As long as the student has set-up and allowed access for the authorized user, an authorized user will be able to log in to their TouchNet account to make payments on the student’s payment plan.

What is the minimum balance to setup a payment plan?

In order to qualify for a standard payment plan, the student must have a balance of at least $200.
